Chaplains are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. During normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the manager generally may be reached at 757-736-1201. However, for all routine and emergency after-hours pastoral care, contact the Communications Center at 757-736-1000 to have the appropriate chaplain paged.
The main Chaplaincy Services office is located on the first floor, adjacent to the entry to the Hampton River Medical Building (Building 4000). It is co-located with the volunteers office.
The department coordinates spiritual screens of all in-patients, provides spiritual assessment of patients upon referral or request or when certain medical triggers are met. The department offers patients and their family members and friends pastoral care.
The department also provides pastoral care to ¸Û°Äͼ¿â CarePlex Hospital patients and ¸Û°Äͼ¿â Port Warwick patients, along with their family members by request or referral. The department is staffed by a full-time manager, and five on-call clinical chaplains in addition to over three dozen adjunct chaplains and on-call community clergy representing a very diverse religious spectrum.
Additionally, the department has partnered with Regent University School of Divinity, Virginia Union School of Theology, Regent University School of Psychology and Counseling, and Old Dominion University School of Psychology to allow select graduate students the opportunity for an exposure to pastoral care and counseling within a healthcare setting.
In January 2006, the department began a Clinical Pastoral Education program under the auspices of the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy.
