¸Û°Äͼ¿â supports patients diagnosed with diabetes with a comprehensive team of resources. Available team members include health care providers, diabetes care and education specialists and registered dietitians. They collaborate closely with you to help you navigate the condition, including maintaining your blood glucose within the desired range. In the event you have additional health concerns, you can also be referred promptly to specialists for additional support with concerns such as eye, kidney and foot care.
The diabetes and endocrinology program at ¸Û°Äͼ¿â Norfolk General Hospital is a partnership with Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). EVMS is home to the Strelitz Diabetes Center, a nationally recognized program combining quality patient care with groundbreaking diabetes research. This program delivers exemplary patient care and conducts innovative research. It also trains future experts in the quest to prevent, treat and cure diabetes.
The EVMS Strelitz Diabetes Center provides state-of-the-art treatment of diabetes and its complications in the outpatient, inpatient and community settings. The EVMS-¸Û°Äͼ¿â Cardiovascular Diabetes Program provides unique comprehensive, multidisciplinary diabetes care for inpatients with cardiovascular disease.
¸Û°Äͼ¿â Norfolk General Hospital diabetes, endocrinology, cardiology and heart surgery services, which are run collaboratively with EVMS, are nationally ranked.

Group classes
- Healthy Living with Diabetes – These classes are offered every other month with a total of three class sessions of approximately three hours each. Patients attend one class per week for three weeks.
- Kidney transplant/diabetes classes – This class is available for patients who have had a transplant at a ¸Û°Äͼ¿â hospital. It meets the second Monday of each month. Contact the Kidney Transplant Clinic for more information at 757-388-3000.

You need a physician referral to participate in individual or group classes. If you see a ¸Û°Äͼ¿â Medical Group provider, ask them about completing an electronic referral form. Non-¸Û°Äͼ¿â providers may fax a written referral to (757) 388-3152. Download and print the physician referral form.
Support groups
¸Û°Äͼ¿â offers a free online Diabetes Support Group, where you can find a support system for living with diabetes. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about diabetes, share your achievements and concerns and hear guest speakers. If you or someone you love is living with diabetes, we invite you to join this group. The Diabetes Support Group is held virtually online on the second Wednesday of every month at 10 a.m.
