¸Û°Äͼ¿â Northern Virginia Medical Center became the first center in the Delaware-Maryland-Virginia area to offer aquablation therapy when we piloted the program in May 2018.
Aquablation therapy uses a robot-controlled waterjet to remove your enlarged prostate tissue. It is the only Food and Drug Administration-cleared, minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or enlarged prostate, that combines real-time, multi-dimensional imaging with surgical robotics and a heat-free waterjet for targeted, precise and safe removal of prostate tissue, with a reduced risk of sexual side effects.
BPH is a common condition as men get older. An enlarged prostate gland can cause uncomfortable urinary symptoms, such as blocking the flow of urine out of your bladder. It can also cause bladder, urinary tract and kidney problems.
In the past, men have had to choose between significant symptom relief and compromising sexual function. For this reason, many men have avoided treatment altogether.
Studies have shown few or no side effects for men turning to aquablation:
- Zero percent impact on erectile function, orgasmic function, sexual desire, intercourse satisfaction and overall sexual satisfaction
- Nearly all men with BPH preserve ejaculation function
- 99 percent of men with BPH did not have incontinence after aquablation therapy
