The ¸Û°Äͼ¿â RMH School of Phlebotomy offers a 18-week program with classes beginning in January and August of each year. An accelerated 11-week program, with classes beginning in May, is designed for university level students in pre-professional health majors who require clinical hours in support of applications to Medical School and other graduate level professional programs. Priority for admission to the May program will be given to applicants who indicate this need in their application materials.
Phlebotomy technicians collect blood and other specimens for the laboratory. They assist with handling specimens and processing. They are a vital, necessary part of the health care team. There is a severe national shortage for phlebotomy technicians. Employment of phlebotomists is expected to grow 25% between 2016 and 2026, according to the . This is a much faster than average growth rate compared to other occupations.
Phlebotomists typically work in hospitals, physician offices, diagnostic labs and blood donation centers.
At the ¸Û°Äͼ¿â RMH School of Phlebotomy, the program is broken into two sections. The first ten weeks of the program consists of lectures at the School in Harrisonburg, VA. The remaining 8 weeks will be a clinical rotation at either ¸Û°Äͼ¿â RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg, VA, or ¸Û°Äͼ¿â Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. A certificate will be awarded at the completion of the program. Graduates will be eligible to take the ASCP Phlebotomy Technician certification exam.

It is the mission of the ¸Û°Äͼ¿â RMH School of Phlebotomy to graduate beginning phlebotomy technicians with the skills, knowledge, motivation, and insight to excel in the practice of laboratory phlebotomy, and to pass national certification examinations. These graduates will be motivated to continue their education, and to become our future phlebotomy educators and managers in the laboratory. The school will remain on the cutting edge of laboratory education providing the students with the curriculum that is current, safety conscious, and responsive to the dynamic health care environment.
